Motomachi
Review by KC
You plan on going shopping with your friends or family? How about going to a nice cafe? Well, there’s a place called Motomachi, also known as the shopping street. Its in Yokohama and is the perfect place for having fun looking around, shopping, and eating. Motomachi is basically a street filled with many shops, malls, markets, gardens, beauty parlour, cafes, people, and more. The coffee shops and cafes usually cost around ¥90 to ¥400. Places like the hair salon or the super markets cost around ¥600 to ¥3000.
The reason why I chose this spot was because it has many shops I like to go to, and the reason why I thought this place was interesting was because, it has almost everything you need or want there. For instance, if you want new clothings, you’ll see a clothings store almost every other four blocks. The history of Motomachi started back in 1859, Yokohama seaport. Motomachi came into being when Yokohama village was being divided into districts. The districts were a Japanese business district, and a foreigner residential district. In January 1860, all 90 residents were ordered to move to Motomura. It was a village near the 90 residents, and on February that year, the name “Motomura” changed to “Yokohama Motomachi”.
The things they sell in Motomachi can be expensive, depending on the type of shop, (store, market, etc..) it is. Just bring more money than you usually do the first time you visit there. The reason why I say this is because you might stop by a lot of shops that’ll seem interesting. It will be really crowded on holidays, so if you plan on visiting this place, I’d suggest going on a Friday or the weekends. You should bring something light with you (backpack, shoulderbag, handbags, etc..), and also bring plenty of water in the summer. There are some parking spots by the spot if you go by car. But the parking spots there are the ones where you need to pay a certain amount of money for a certain amount of time. If you are lucky enough, you will see really interesting things on the streets. You will see events on certain holidays, and you’ll hear lots of music depending on what kind of holiday and events they have. There’s also a train station right by Motomachi called Ishikawachō Station, and you’ll know you’ve arrived at Motomachi once you see the sign that says “Welcome! MOTOMACHI”. Motomachi is overall a really nice place to visit.

More’s City
Review By KP
There aren’t many places that I could tell you to go, but if I had to tell you to go somewhere it would have to be More’s City. Mores City is like a type mall, with all these different type of stores in it. It’s an enjoyable place to walk around, and to just look at the things japanese people have in there stores. Some of their things are similar to the things back in the states. So you could probably find some of the things that you like in the their stores.
One time my family and I went there and I had a pretty good time. We went to a bakery in there called Baqet. There they have a chicken covered in this type of sauce and it taste really good. They also have unlimited juices and bread. If I were you I would try their garlic rolls it’s really good. After we ate everything only came up to ¥ 6,000 which is not a lot in american money. After we paid for everything we left and just walked around for a bit looking all the new things that we’d never seen in the states before. That was the first place we went to see when we came to japan, so I’m suggesting it to you.

SuperSports Xebio Store
Review by GC
I would highly recommend the SuperSports store in the Vispo building here in Yokosuka. I love sports, and SuperSports is where I go should I need anything. Not only do they have everything from basketballs to soccer jerseys, they also have whatever you can imagine from skiing and snowboarding to rugby and pole vaulting. SuperSports has a wide assortment of backpacks, hats, and jackets along with jerseys and athletic attire. Located along the coastal route of Yokosuka Highway 16, the Vispo building is on the side of Home’s and across the street from Livin. Vispo is easy to access whether you choose to walk (30 minutes), ride a bike (15 minutes), or drive (5 minutes). There is free validated parking attached to the building. Many people park at Livin or Home’s to do some shopping there as well. The Vispo building contains stores such as Denny’s, ABC Mart, the Daiso, and Victoria Golf. SuperSports is located on the second floor. As soon as you get off the elevator/escalator you should see it. Other than the small corner for Victoria Golf, it takes up the entire floor. Prices usually vary based on Japanese demand. However, it is still my first shopping choice. I go there often and they usually have great deals. Go to SuperSports!

Lalaport
Review by CK
If you’re new to Japan and want to shop somewhere with American brand clothes and lots of different themed restaurants, go to Lalaport! Lalaport is full of all sorts of restaurants, clothing stores, and so on! Some clothing stores in Lalaport are Hollister, Forever 21, H&M, GAP, and lots more. And if you get hungry after all that shopping, you can go eat at some restaurants or little venders like Auntie Anne’s, Hawaiian cafes, Italian restaurants, and lots of Japanese restaurants, and if you came with your family, or your friends and you want to eat different food than the others, you can eat at the food court! They have all different kinds of food where you can feast upon. There is also a food court there with all different kinds of food like a Japanese themed restaurant, a Italian themed restaurant, American food, and lots of others. There is also a Krispy Kreme donut stand where they sell all sorts of donuts from the original glazed donuts to the seasonal(monthly special) donuts. Lalaport is in yokohama and there is also one in Tokyo bay.

Anime Fest
Review by SC
Are you an anime enthusiast? If so, the Anime Fest is a great place to buy merchandise or just look around. This festival is just full of other anime enthusiasts.
This place is really cool. I chose it because this convention center holds many conventions, my favorite being the anime convention. It was really full of life.
The convention center is really close to Legoland. It is a huge white building with a dome-like roof. The line looks long but it goes really fast, unfortunately when I went we didn’t see the ticket booth and we head to go back. Tickets are ¥2,000 and there are only adult tickets. It is in March and this year it was the 19th-20th. Once you enter the main entrance there is a kid area that is quite small compared to the rest of the place. It is just a concrete floor and a huge looming ceiling. In the small kids’ area is the only cute childish anime with a few games. Once you cross over into the other side there is guest speakers and booths. There were so many different things and there was even some tech stuff from the Tokyo Art School.
If you do go you must be sure to check the cosplay area where there are costumes for sale and if you step outside there is a large space for you to take pictures of the cosplayers. Also be sure to check the upstairs to the building because it has many good restaurants. Which are a bit expensive but I recommend the chinese place at the back, just head down the hall. The hall just outside the main area is so long there are series of moving sidewalks.
If you are planning to go there is an ITT tour or it’s really easy to go by train. The booths are really cool, and a bit expensive. Unfortunately they don’t have some of the more unpopular anime stuff like the ones I like. The staff at the festival know pretty good english so if you don’t have a translator you don’t need one. Also keep in mind if you want to listen to what the people are saying about like upcoming anime episodes or seasons you’ll need a translator. This festival was very fun for me and my family, who don’t really know much about anime.

J-World Tokyo
Review by DM
Do you like Anime? If so, this is the perfect place for you. It has all kinds of anime such as, Naruto,Kuroko,Dragon ball, Bleach , One Piece, Sword Art Online ,Attack on Titan and much more. It even has food from the anime at the j-world kitchen. Like in Naruto he eats a ramen called (Ichi raku). At J-world Kitchen they have a remake of it in real life. In DragonBall the main character Goku eats chicken nuggets. At J-world kitchen they have Goku nuggets. They also have a arcade about as big as 2 Daei Malls. It has games from all the anime’s such as puzzle and dragons, dragon ball and more. They have a awesome naruto section where you go in and there is a cart that you go in and you go through this cave. In the cave it is like heaven. It is so colorful and beautiful. From Yokosuka chuo it is about 950 for tool and 1500 for train. For child 5-15 it is 500-1000 depending on age. Adult 16 and up is 1600 yen. I had lots of fun there and spent only 5000 there for the entire day and I had the best day of my life with my friend.Hope you have just as much fun as I did. Enjoy your trip!

Do you enjoy shopping? Time to go to Lalaport! Lalaport is a mall with the most popular stores around, such as Forever 21, H&M, and Hollister.Lalaport also has restaurants and a movie theater. Lalaport also has a Starbucks located on the second floor and Auntie Anne’s (a pretzel bread) located on the first floor.
I chose Lalaport for the Best of Yokosuka because I love shopping and whenever I go to Lalaport, I feel like I'm at a mall in states. I think Lalaport is interesting because it's an indoor and outdoor mall and sometimes there are campaigns outside. Lalaport first opened in 2007 and has hundreds of stores throughout the mall. Lalaport is open all week and closes at 10pm on the weekends. Sometime Lalaport has major sales that are 25%, 50%, or 75% off!
Whenever I go to Lalaport, my parents make sure that bring enough money to make sure we can get what we want. Many activities at Lalaport include watching a movie at the movie theater, shopping and eating. In Lalaport there are so many different type of stores everywhere! There are sport stores, candy stores, clothes stores, book stores, and furniture stores. Once I went to Lalaport with Kylie and we ran into Auntie Anne's (a pretzel bread store) and it was absolutely perfect. Their pretzel bread is so soft like a cloud, crispy like bread crust, and sweet like candy. When I bit into the pretzel, I felt wings pop out of my back and I flew to heaven. I personally think you need a lot of time to go to Lalaport because there are so many stores. It takes about 30 minutes to 40 minutes to get to Lalaport

Daiso
Review by SS
There are a lot of cool places you can go in Japan. You can go shopping or play at a park or go to a museum or a restaurant. If I had to pick one place, I would probably choose the Daiso. The Daiso was the first store that I went to when I got to Japan. You can find them all over Japan. In train stations, at malls, and just by themselves. The one I usually go to is across the street from Yokosuka-Chuo station. From Womble Gate, (which is the gate I usually leave the base from) you turn right and cross the first two crosswalks, and then there will be a crosswalk on the left, and you cross there onto Blue Street, and then you keep going straight until you see the Yokosuka-Chuo station. You then cross the street, and go into the building and go up to the fourth floor. The whole floor is a huge Daiso.
When we were moving in to our new house, we were trying to find things like dishes, office supplies and small house decorations. We looked around, and it was all so expensive. Then, we checked the Daiso and they had all of it. Also, when we were getting our new bikes, we were finding all of the flashlights and reflective lights at the NEX, but they were up to $10.00! We decided to look around, and we found all of it at the Daiso! So now whenever we need something, we go to the Daiso first just to make sure that we aren't spending more than we need to.
The Daiso is a store where almost everything is ¥100. You can get things like school supplies, makeup or candy to house/kitchen items. I buy a lot of my pencils and erasers there, and they work really well. I like some of the candy there, and it's extremely cheap. The containers and lunchboxes there are adorable and small, and I have bought a lot. Although it seems like it's all a good deal, you have to keep in mind that sometimes, you get what you pay for. Sometimes things are made out of cheap material, and will break easily, but not always. Some things may just seem useless, but sometimes they're a lot fun to have. So overall, I think you should go to the Daiso.

Odaiba,Tokyo
Review by HM
Have you ever been to Odaiba? If you go there is a lot of stuff to do. I went to a Mother’s day brunch there,we ate a lot of food, like pie, brownies, and they even had breakfast. After we had breakfast and other foods,we went to the Diver City Mall and went shopping, we also went to different restaurants. We went to a Hotel called New Sano its the place where we went to eat for the Mother’s day brunch. When we walked outside of the Diver City Mall there was a giant robot from an anime tv show. I didn’t know what the tv show was called but I thought the robot was cool so I took a picture of it.
We also went to another mall called Aqua City. It was called that because it was near Tokyo Bay.Inside that mall it was made to look like the city of Dubai. Dubai is a city in United Arab it has mainly an Asian Origin. It also is known for its large skyscrapers and buildings. In the mall it was very dark and there were fountains made of stone.People were throwing their money it the fountains. The statues were stone women holding a giant bowl . We also got on a tour bus and went on a bridge called Rainbow bridge over the water and there a lot of boats and buildings. We also saw a Japanese concert and the band was called Pentatonix.they were singing but even though I couldn’t understand it because they were japanese but it still sounded good to me. During the concert the band jumped off the stage and started dancing in the crowd. That was a fun concert.
Do you enjoy anime? There are many comic book stores and movie theaters.I went into an anime store and it had my favorite anime tv show One Piece.I also got my phone case from the store.I think people who like anime would love that store. The store had a sale of 20% off on T-shirts and comic books, which I think is a good deal because most of the stuff in the store was ¥5,000.When we were in the anime store we spent ¥4,000. I only got a One Piece shirt and my sister got three different Attack on Titan shirts and those were ¥1,000 each. After we got out of the anime store we went to Tokyo Bay where there was a lot of fish and Jellyfish.
we also went to a place where they make pancakes with food in it like seafood, meat, and tofu. You can also make your own combinations of food if you want to. I got a pancake with seafood in it.I thought the restaurant was good, and we should go more often. The restaurant was called Okonomiyaki, it’s a pancake restaurant. All of their restaurants are mainly in Japan. It was really colorful and had pictures of different pancake combinations. If you ever go to Diver City you should go to Okonomiyaki. That was my best time in Japan.

Queen’s Plaza Mall
Review by AY
If you ever feel like spending money or riding rides or eating at good restaurants then go to Queen’s Plaza. Queen’s Plaza has everything you could want all in one place. Most kids like to eat and ride rides and make their parents buy them things and Queen’s Plaza is the place where that happens. I’ve never been to a place where all my favorite things are all together.
When I got there I was so shocked at all the American stores that were there, as in American Eagle, Gap, H&M, and the Disney Store. More than one building makes up the plaza, but they are right by each other. The stores are for all ages. The Disney Store could be for your younger siblings if you have any or maybe yourself and American Eagle for yourself too. H&M could be for yourself if you like that kind of style and for your parents. The plaza is in Yokohama. I’m not sure exactly where it is at, but you’ll be able to find it if you look. You can’t really miss the buildings because they are pretty big and you will be able to the see the roller coasters. Inside there are trees planted in the lobby area that have pink magnificent flowers. The restaurants have all kinds of food like Italian, Japanese, and many more. When I went there I ate at this Italian restaurant and I had this very good pizza that left me feeling so satisfied. When I went there the cost at some stores were a little unacceptable. H&M was the cheapest store, everything was ¥2,000 and under. When I went I shopped at H&M and I bought a lot of clothes for under ¥10,000. The price for the food was pretty reasonable. I didn’t get to ride the rides, but they looked awesome! They went in circles, maybe even upside down. If you are not a roller coaster fan or have a weak stomach I don’t recommend riding them. The rides will cost money, but I’m not really sure how much. When you go bring a lot of money because you will at least spend some of it. You will be attracted to everything like a bug is to a light during the night. You will need to take the train because that is the easiest way there. The train is not very cheap so remember to bring money for that. We were on the train for about forty-five minutes to about one hour. You will be satisfied, feel successful and non-regretful when you leave no matter what you like to buy. Just remember not to spend all your money and go bankrupt because it’s very easy to do so with all the delicious food and stylish clothes that will make everyone envy you. When you go you need to know how to say “yes” in Japanese which is, “hai”, and “thank you” which is “arigatou”. I can’t wait to go back to that place it was great! You are going to want to go over and over again and spend your money.
