Shin-Yokohama Ice Rink
Review by KL (Arnold)
The place I chose for my Best of Yokosuka project is the Shin-Yokohama ice rink. In this ice rink is an oval shaped rink in the middle of the building. You will be counter-clockwise skating in this oval
There are two locker rooms. These rooms are gender separated. In these rooms there are lockers (obviously) for 200 yen.
Looking for Parking? There are many parking lots near the ice skating center.
If you are hungry there is a snack bar inside the rink. Outside there is a seven eleven right in front of you. There are many restaurants near the rink.
If you ever need a dinner go to the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum. This is the inside of the museum. There are stores on the rim of the place and a museum too!
This is the route you take on the train. Total fare is 550 yen.

Snow Town Yeti
Review by EM
(Arnold)
I bet you imagine Japan has lots of snow, but there’s not so much in most of the areas. If you are a snowboarder or a skier you would probably want to go to Snow Town Yeti. It’s about 2 hours and 30 minutes to get there from Yokosuka naval base. I think it’s really convenient because there is nowhere else so close to go snowboarding or skiing.
Directions to Snow Town Yeti are pretty basic. When you leave the main gate you will take a right and get on the Honcho Yamanaka and get on the Yokosuka/ Yokohama highway toward Yokohama. Stay on the Yoko Yoko until you reach the Hodogaya Bypass. Take the Hodogaya Bypass about 20 minutes and then when you pass the Shimokawai exit get in the left lane and take the exit to get on the Tomei Express way. Be sure to go slowly around the curve when approaching the toll gate. Take a ticket and get on the Tomei Express way toward Nagoya (not Tokyo!!). Stay on the Tomei Express way for about 110Km (65 Minutes) and get off at the Gotemba exit. There are two exit ramps and either one will work, we prefer the one going off to the left. After paying the toll take a left at the light and go straight on Route 138 until you see an over pass. Before going under the over pass take a left onto Route 246. Go about 1 mile and take a right onto Route 23. Stay on this road until you see the turn for Snow Town Yeti. Then you will take another left and pay a 510 Yen toll to enter the park, and you will see the park on your left. The snow is breath taking.
Since you drove to Snow Town Yeti, the obvious thing to think about and know is about parking. Parking Monday through Friday is free! Parking on Saturday, Sunday and on Japanese Holidays is 1000 Yen flat rate. There are three parking areas, and they are really secure. When driving to Snow Town Yeti, it is a good idea to bring chains for your car, or have snow tires. It is better to be safe than sorry, and the roads can be slippery at times. The operating hours for the snow park are as follows:
2014 October 17 ~ 2015 April 5
OPEN every day!

I think the courses are pretty amazing. There are 3 lifts. The first lift is the blue lift. This lift is for beginners, and is next to the beginner course. The second lift is the red lift which is next to the intermediate course. The third lift the yellow lift it’s for advanced snowboarders/skiers. The beginner’s course is icier than any other lifts. I don’t recommend this course because it’s icy and narrow but if it’s your first time I recommend this course because there are not many people. The intermediate course has a lot of people, is much wider and longer but the trick is to wait till 4:00 pm when the ski schools finish, and everyone starts to go home. I really recommend this course because the snow is almost like powder and there are a couple jumps you can do. The advanced course is really steep so I don’t recommend it for people who are not so good at snowboarding or skiing.

They have snowboarding/ Ski School but I would not recommend taking lessons at the ski school or snowboard schools unless you are fluent in Japanese. One thing I really recommend is the rental shop because you can rent snowboarding /skiing gears. I will list the prices in chart down below:
In my opinion the overall rating for Snow Town Yeti, on a scale of 1~10, is about an 8 because some of the courses have some icy spots on it.
